Description:
This is a Honeywell VR8204 series combination gas control valve, a widely-used residential/light-commercial gas appliance component that combines a manual on/off gas cock, a pressure regulator, a pilot valve, and two automatic (safety) main valve operators into one body.
This valve is to be installed in the gas supply line of a heating appliance, sitting between the gas meter/supply pipe and the burner assembly. When the thermostat calls for heat, the ignition control module fires the igniter and opens the valve’s pilot stage first; once pilot flame is proven (via a flame sensor), the module signals the valve to open the main burner stage(s). It provides both safety shutoff (blocking gas if ignition fails) and pressure regulation to the burner.
The VR8204 series is most commonly found in residential and light-commercial gas furnaces, boilers, and unit heaters using intermittent pilot ignition systems — it’s a very common OEM and aftermarket replacement part across many furnace/boiler brands (Carrier, Trane, Goodman, Rheem, Lennox, etc., all commonly spec Honeywell VR8204 valves).
